JOB OVERVIEW – The Special Needs Unit (SNU) provides 24-hour nursing aide care for the medical management of offenders placed in the unit. The purpose of this position is to provide direct care and medical case management to the inmates housed in the SNU.   Medical management includes\:

  •  Arranging for admission into the SNU by communicating with staff. 
  •  Assisting in activities of daily living for offenders such as transfers, bathing, feeding, etc. 
  •  Assisting nurses and physicians by doing vital signs, patient check ins, and treatments such as EKG’s.
  •  Responding to urgent situations and uses de-escalation skills in the event of dangerous problems or emergencies both in the SNU.
  • Gathers and reports medical data and documents in the offender’s medical record.  
  • Assists with filing of documents in the medical record and scheduling of off-site appointments. 
  • Maintains inventory and equipment control by completing tracking logs and inventory control counts for tools, syringes and other medical equipment and purchase of medical supplies.  Also maintains oxygen tanks and service equipment.
  • Provides security and safety within the confines of the institution with the focus of security responsibilities in the SNU.
