Fleet Vehicle Maintenance Technician Apprenticeship

We’re moving our vehicle fleet into a new era of electric and alternative fuel. And we need skilled technicians to keep them on the road, as they deliver millions of items across the country, every day. Over 32 months, you’ll get on-the-job training at our Remit’s Automotive Academy in Derby with support from your own Development Coach. From servicing and repairing vehicles to solving complex faults, you’ll gain all the skills and knowledge needed to become a qualified Vehicle Technician. 

What you will be doing 

Vehicle maintenance at Royal Mail isn’t what it used to be, we are phasing out our diesel and petrol vehicles in favour of electric and alternative fuelled vans and trucks, whist’s equipping our technicians and workshops with the tools and training to become experts in maintaining our vast fleet.  

We have two different routes available:  

HGV Apprentice - Nationwide vacancies available, you will be asked to choose your preferred location on the next screen.

As a Vehicle Technician Apprentice, you'll service and repair heavy goods vehicles, including trailers, working on all the systems within the vehicle. Day-to-day, you could be completing routine maintenance or solving complex faults using diagnostic methods and equipment, learning everything there is to know on the job.  

Vehicle Damage Panel Technician - North London only vacancies available.

A Vehicle Damage Panel Technician works within the Collision Repair workshop, demonstrating expert working knowledge in relation to the removal, repair and replacement of vehicle body panels to vehicle manufacturer specification. As a technician you will follow a defined process, using your skills to correctly identify the different body panel types and have the ability to use the correct repair tools to carry out the work to the highest possible standard.  

We have modern workshops facilities and will provide apprentices with a Starter Tool kit, PPE and image clothing. This is a great opportunity to develop a career within Royal Mail with further training plans available once you complete your apprenticeship.

Your apprenticeship 

 

Training is delivered in the workplace and on block release in Derby. There is a total of 18 x 1-week blocks over the programme. The costs of hotel accommodation, some food and travel are met by Royal Mail and there will be no cost to you. You will also receive 1-2-1 support from your Development Coach.

Starting Salary: £17,271, rising to £17,787 in Year 2 and £20,796 in Year 3 

Duration: 3 years 

Eligibility: GCSE Eng, Math & Science at grade 4 or C or above. For English and Math L2 Functional skills is an acceptable equivalent, however you will still require Science GCSE.
